The basics
Very Strong Research
Very Strong Research
Vitamin D is essential for strong bones and general health. Deficiency, while rare, has serious health consequences, like rickets. A 2011 study showed that over 70% of Americans get less than the recommended amount of vitamin D. If you don't get a lot of sun, or if your diet is low in foods containing it, you may be among them. Foods that contain vitamin D are fatty fish, beef liver, and fortified milk and cereal.

Supports bone health

Adequate intake of vitamin D is essential to maintain healthy bones. Vitamin D is necessary for calcium and phosphorus absorption, which is why it is a major component of bone health.* Ingesting adequate calcium and vitamin D throughout life as part of a well-balanced diet may reduce the risk of osteoporosis.

Produced from the sun

Vitamin D is found in our diet, but we also produce it through exposure to sunlight. However, a number of factors impact the ability for people to get necessary levels of vitamin D through sun exposure. Regional factors that prevent people from getting sun exposure include cloud cover patterns, smog, and the angle with which the sun hits the earth. In cities north of 37 degrees latitude (imagine a line drawn between San Francisco and Richmond, VA), it’s hard for people to produce enough vitamin D from sun exposure, especially between the months of November and March.

Helps keep your immune system strong

Several placebo-controlled studies have shown that vitamin D can regulate the growth and function of immune cells, which are critical for a healthy immune and inflammatory response. In one study, participants who were given 2,000 IU of vitamin D saw a higher concentration of the immune cells responsible for strengthening our bodies’ natural defense system.*

Better
ingredients

Our Vitamin D is fermented with probiotics and organic foods, which gently cultures nutrients into an easily digested, highly active form that is easy for your body to absorb. In contrast, most vitamin D products are isolates, which are less bioavailable.
